Happy Monday, everyone! Today is my Design Team day over at Pink by Design, so I have a fun card to share with you today. Here it is:

The fabulous sentiment came from Pink by Design's Cruisin' Stamp Set. I think it's perfect for a congratulations card. I also can't wait to use it whenever I start scrapbooking our last vacation...which happened to be a cruise. This set will be PERFECT for that!

I found this cool surfer girl in the Silhouette Online Store and cut her using my Silhouette Cameo. I created the base of the card by welding two circles together in Silhouette Studio. Then, I embossed it using Tim Holtz Retro Circles embossing folder and my Cuttlebug. I inked everything up with my ColorBox Fluid Chalk Inks, and my card was all done. I hope you like it.

Cameo Creations Challenge: St. Patrick's Day Decor

Happy March 1, everyone! Can you believe it's already March??? This year has just been flying by, and we even had an extra day in there! Whew!

Today is a great day for another Cameo Creations Challenge. This time, the challenge is to create a home decor item with a St. Patrick's Day theme. Here's what I came up with:

I created this little door/wall hanging with svgs and Silhouette Studio files. The leprechaun, rainbow, pot of gold, shamrocks, and banner all came from the Lettering Delights Luck of the Irish Cut It Set. The clouds came from this file I found in the Silhouette Online Store. I created the base of the hanging by arranging the rainbow and clouds on my virtual mat in Silhouette Studio and then using the offset tool to create a shadow layer around all four shapes. Then, I cut ten of those shadow layers out of kraft cardstock so my wall hanging would feel more like a thin wooden sign. I glued all of the pieces together, added another layer cut out of blue patterned paper, and I had a nice, sturdy base for my wall hanging.

I used fun glitter and reflective paper for the rainbow. I like the sparkle that it adds.

The leprechaun's tights, jacket trim, buckle, and button are also sparkly. He is sooo fashionable! Ha! I stamped his cute little face with a stamp from my Peachy Keen Everyday Character Face Assortment.

The gold, of course, is also glittery. I inked all of my cuts up with my ColorBox Fluid Chalk Inks, added some doodle lines and a ribbon for hanging, and my door/wall handing was all done! I hope you like it!

Harry Potter Card

Hey, everyone! I have a card to share with you today that I meant to post last week...but time got away from me. I made this for my oldest daughter, who just LOVES Harry Potter. This was her Valentine's Day card. Here it is:

I got this super cute Harry Potter look-alike and his Nimbus 2000 from the Lettering Delights Best Witches Cut It Set. Isn't he great? I added some stripes to his tie and a little Gryffindor crest to his pocket to make him look more Harry-like. Then, I added some ribbon and some more doodles, and my little card was all done! And, most importantly, my daughter loves it!

Shiver Me Timbers

Happy Monday, everyone!!! It's my Design Team day over at Pink By Design, and I have a layout to share with you today. I'm SO far behind in my scrapbooking. We traveled to Walt Disney World back in 2008, and I'm still working on the scrapbook for that vacation. It doesn't seem like I'll EVER catch up! Anyway, outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, we saw an actor that looked SO MUCH like the real Captain Jack Sparrow that I just had to make a couple of pages about him. Here's my double-page layout:

Doesn't he look JUST like Johnny Depp??? It's amazing!

I created the title of this layout using a font I have on my computer. In order to get the shadow layer around it, I used the offset function in my Silhouette Studio. The three pirate shapes at the bottom of this page came from this 4 Pirate Cupcake Toppers set that I found in the Silhouette Online Store.

I got this fun sentiment from Pink by Design's Pirate's Life Stamp Set. Adding sentiments like this to layouts just adds a little something extra...I like it!

The Pirate Ship on this page also came from the Silhouette Online Store.

I added a circle behind the ship that I stamped (very subtly) with Pink by Design's Script Background Stamp. Then, I added another fun sentiment from the Pirate's Life set.

This is actually my first time using stamps on a layout! I'll definitely be doing it more often. :) Thanks for stopping by today!

Mason Benefit Blog Hop

Welcome to Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons and the Mason Benefit Blog Hop. We're having this hop to share the story of a special little guy and to help out his family with some of their medical bills. We're also making some sweet get well cards for Mason, and we are hoping to inspire others to do the same.

This is a standard, A2-sized card (4.25" x 5.5"). I got the cute race car from the Lettering Delights Sew Boy Stitchy Cut It Set, and I cut it out using my Silhouette Cameo. I created the background by cutting 1.5" x 3.75" rectangles from coordinating papers and rounding the corners on each. The yellow mat is 1.75" wide and has been embossed with my Spots and Dots Cuttlebug Embossing Folder. The fun sentiment is from Pink By Design's Oh Boy Stamp Set. I added some brads for the hub caps, lots of ink, some doodles, and a little ribbon, and my card was all done.

Since the card base is dark navy, I also added a yellow mat to the inside with a scrap of the patterned paper from the front. That way, I'll have plenty of room to write my message to Mason and his family.

Fly Away With Me

YAY! It's THURSDAY!!! Just one more day until FRIDAY! Woot, woot! This is my Pink by Design Design Team day, and I want to share the Valentine I made for my husband with you. Here it is:

Now, I realize this isn't a traditional Valentine, but I have a very good reason behind it. You see, my hubby is just a GIANT KID! He's been wanting this big remote control helicopter FOREVER. He got a small one for Christmas, and you should just see his face light up when he flies the thing around the house. He especially loves hovering it over me when I'm on my laptop (making me FREEZE and very annoyed) and getting my Chihuahua to bark and chase it around. Well, I ordered the big version of the helicopter for him for V-day, but, just as I expected, it didn't make it here on time (of course). So, I decided to make a card for him that would let him know what he has to look forward to.

This card is 5.75" square. I got the cute helicopter from my Boys Will Be Boys Cricut Cartridge, the hills came from my Country Life Cricut Cartridge, and the clouds came from my Create a Critter Cartridge. I just love using clouds for my sentiments, especially on scene cards like this one. Speaking of sentiments, this cute one came from Pink by Design's Ticket to Ride stamp set. Oh, and I made the cute polka dots in the sky with the my Pink by Design Tiny Dots Background Stamp. I added lots of ink with my ColorBox Fluid Chalk Inks, some flower brads, and some doodles, and my Valentine for my hubby was all done!

Quick Valentines

Okay, I have to admit...Valentine's Day has not been high on my priority list lately. There's been a lot going on in our little house, and I had not really planned on making any little treats for my daughters' classes. The only plan I had consisted of buying some of those cute pre-made Valentines and stapling them to 1" x 8" cellophane bags I've had for a while (filled with some sort of candy, of course). So, that was my plan for spending only a short amount of time on goodies for my girls' classes. Well, living in Germany seems to mess up my plans a lot.

Here's what you have to understand about Germany. Number one...people here speak German. Duh. ;) So, even if they do celebrate Valentine's Day, and even if they do have little packages of V-day cards (which, by the way, I don't know if they do)...they would be in GERMAN, not English. Number two, Germany does not really do scrapbooking, it seems. There are very few craft stores around here, and they are not geared toward paper crafts. So, here's my problem: anything I buy that has to do with the "American" way of celebrating a holiday or that has to do with crafts has to be bought on base...at the Base Exchange or the very small Arts and Crafts hobby store we have. Now, usually, this isn't a problem. The Base Exchange (BX) is usually very good about getting at least SOMETHING I can use in on time. In fact, there have been boxes of chocolates and little V-day stuffed animals out since early January. However, no matter how many times a week I searched, they had not gotten in any of those cute little boxes of Valentines. The nice lady I talked to said the shipment hadn't come in yet...as of Friday...just a few days before the big day. Uggghhhh!!! So, my plans were messed up, yet again, by our wonderful BX. You'd think I'd have learned over the past 2 years to plan ahead and order these things through the Internet. Nope...not me.

So, I started panicking a little on Sunday. What were we going to do? I still didn't know how I was going to fit in paper piecing 48 little Valentines, and I've never tried the print and cut function on my Cameo, and I didn't think this was a good time to try it out. I tend to get more frustrated when I'm panicking. Well, I have to say that Lettering Delights (one of my favoritest stores ever) saved me. I saw that they were offering free printable V-day cards in different patterns. They had pirate ones, alligator ones, buggy ones, and monkey ones. So, the girls and I took a look, and they settled on the cute Bugaboo ones. All I had to do was print them on white card stock and cut them with my awesome Carl paper trimmer (which can cut up to 4 sheets of heavy card stock at a time). It still took quite a bit of time to stuff the little bags (which I bought at Clear Bags a while back) with Skittles, but I think the result turned out to be pretty fun and cute. (By the way, I had envisioned filling them with V-day colored candies, like pink and red M & Ms...but, guess what? The BX didn't carry those this year. Go figure!) Ha!!!

So, here's an example of the 50 or so Valentines my daughters and I put together yesterday:

Pretty simple...but it was all I had time for this year. I still think they are super cute! :)

We used pink wrapping paper, some pre-cut letters I had laying around from my pre-Cricut days, and the little bugs from some extra cards I printed to decorate their Valentine's Day boxes. Using my Xyron sticker machine made this go even faster for us. :) Here are their finished boxes:

Love My Cameo Blog Hop

Hi! Welcome to Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons and the Love My Cameo Blog Hop. We're excited to share with you some fun projects we made with our Silhouette Cameos. If you've come here from Lisa B.'s blog, you're in the right place. If you just happened to stumble upon my post, I hope you'll go start back at the beginning of the hop at Amy's blog. You won't want to miss any of these Cameo projects...plus, I bet there will be plenty of fun BLOG CANDY along the way.

You know, I got my Cameo back in October, and I really do love it. I love the flexibility it offers. I have access to all of the SVG files I've been collecting over the past year, as well as all of the amazing files offered in the Silhouette Online Store. I can also design my own projects from scratch or combine files by using my Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. I really can make just about anything I can think of with my Cameo! I'm so excited about all of the possibilities for using it with fabric, vinyl, and home decor. I can't wait to try some of the fun techniques I keep reading about on the Internet.

For my project today, I decided to make a sweet little Valentine's Day card. Here it is:

This is an A2 sized card, so it's 4.25" x 5.5". I got the cute little push pin from Lettering Delight's Pop School Cut It Set. The little banner at the bottom came from this 7 Labels Set I found in the Silhouette Online Store. I got the sweet sentiment from Pink By Design's Be Mine Stamp Set, and I used Pink By Design's Notebook Paper Background Stamp on the little banner. The pin's cute little face came from Peachy Keen's Everyday Character Faces Assortment. I added lots of ink, some doodles, a star brad, and some Divine Twine (which you can get HERE in the Pink By Design Store), and my little card was all done!

Now, this cute little Lettering Delights push pin had it's own little face. It looked sort-of mad, though, so I used my Silhouette Studio to remove the facial features from the cut. I didn't want a mad push pin on my happy V-day card. Here's how I did it:

First, I opened my SVG file in my Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. I selected the push pin on my virtual mat, clicked the Ungroup Selected Shapes button on the lower left-hand corner of my screen, and separated the little pin into her different layers.

Okay, before you say anything...I know that I could have just used the black layer and I could have been done with it. But, I wanted to show you a way to modify cuts in Silhouette Studio that are being a little stubborn. I've come across a few files I've wanted to change that didn't have that extra layer I could use. So, for now, lets just pretend that black layer wasn't there. ;)

Now, my first instinct to modify a cut like this would be to simply ungroup the shape again and delete the eyes and mouth. Well...guess what??? That wouldn't work for this particular file. The software didn't recognize anything else that could be ungrouped. But, never fear...there's another way!

There is a pretty easy way to get rid of "holes" like these in your cuts. You can use the drawing tools over on the left side of your screen. I simply drew a rectangle that was big enough to cover the holes in my shape.

Then, I selected both the push pin shape and the rectangle. You can do that by either clicking and dragging over both shapes, or you can select the rectangle, hold down the shift key, and then select the push pin shape. Once both are selected (you can tell they both are because they both have gray rectangles around them), I clicked the Weld button on the bottom left corner of my screen, and...

VIOLA!!! I have a nice solid shape! YAY!

Wishing it Was Fry Day

Hey, everyone!!! Well, it's Monday again, and I have to admit that I'm already wishing it was Friday. That seems to happen a lot. It's also my Pink By Design Design Team day, so I thought I'd make a little card that would be perfect for a day you wish was Friday. Here it is:

I got the fun sentiment for this card from Pink By Design's Plum Perfect Stamp Set. I stamped the sentiment right on my die cut. I usually try to leave space on the card base or cut a special shape just for the sentiment, like a tag, but sometimes it's fun to stamp right on your main shape, especially if it is a pretty basic cut. The cut came from this French Fries file I found in the Silhouette Online Store. It's a pretty simple cut, so I wanted to make my card pretty simple, too. I simply cut a piece of kraft cardstock to 4.25" x 5.5", added a striped mat (3.75" x 5"), some burlap/jute ribbon, and lots of ink, and the card was quickly finished.

Cameo Creations Challenge #2: Bananas Over You

Yay! Are you ready for another Cameo Creations Challenge?

Challenge #2 is to use your Silhouette machine (any model) create a Valentine's Day tag. It must have a button and a scalloped shape. Here's what I came up with:

I got this adorable little monkey from The Digi Bistro's Funny Valentine Set. Isn't she so sweet? The banana came from this set and the scalloped rectangle came from this 6 Label Shapes set in the Silhouette Online Store. I also cut an oval shape that I drew in Silhouette Studio and folded it over to make the rectangle feel more like a tag.

The sentiment came from Pink By Design's Sweet Grams Stamp Set. The banana's little face came from Peachy Keen's Everyday Character Face Assortment. This was my very first time using Peachy Keen face stamps...and I think I've found a new love. :)

Hey, everyone! I hope you're having a terrific Thursday! Today is my Design Team day over at Pink By Design, and I have card to share with you today that I created around a sentiment from one of PBD's newest stamp sets. Here it is:

The sweet sentiment that inspired this card is from PBD's new Plum Perfect Stamp Set. There are so many fun sentiments on that set...I have so many card designs swimming around in my head!

I got the sweet peas from My Scrap Chick's Kawaii Food Vol. 1 Paper Piecing Set, which I cut using my Silhouette Cameo. I added some faces from the Peachy Keen Everyday Character Face Assortment and a bow from my Create a Critter Cricut Cartridge that I had left over from another project. The hearts and border are from punches. Oh, and I found that fun patterned paper in the Basic Grey Offbeat 6" x 6" paper pad. Isn't it just perfect for this card? To finish off my project, I added lots of ink, some doodles, a jewel, and some Cotton Candy and Cherry Divine Twine, which can be purchased in the Pink By Design Store.

Puppy Birthday Party

Happy Monday, everyone! I'm taking some time today to recuperate from a very busy weekend. Yesterday was my youngest daughter's 8th birthday party, so I've been running around like a maniac trying to get everything ready. I wanted to share the decorations I made for her party. She wanted a pool party, so I limited the decorations to cupcake toppers/wrappers, table decorations, and treat bags. We weren't allowed to hang anything on the walls, so a banner was out. So, here's some pics from her party:

I used my Cricut Expression for all of these cuts. The poodle, cupcake, and bone are all from Create a Critter. I got the party hat from Sweet Treats and the Happy Birthday from Once Upon a Princess. I added ink, doodle marks, and little blue jewels to dress everything up. I just noticed that some of my ribbon fell off of the Happy Birthday sign...oh, well. I guess it didn't bother me at the time. :)

For the cupcake toppers, I got all of the puppies from Create a Critter and the party hats from Sweet Treats. The wrappers were cut from Life's a Party.

All of the cuts in this table decoration are from Create a Critter except for the puppy's hat, which is from Sweet Treats. I added ink, some stickers, some doodles, and some jewels to add a little umph.

The puppy and gifts in this table decoration came from Create a Critter. Her hat and 8 candle came from Sweet Treats. A jewel, ink, and doodles were added here, also.

Here's a close-up of the treat bags. I made the topper base from Art Philosophy, the puppies came from Create a Critter, and the hats came from Sweet Treats. The paw print stamp came from Pink By Design's Furry Friends Stamp Set, and the sentiment came from Pink By Design's Big Thoughts Stamp Set.

Taylor loved all of the decorations and had a blast at her party. From the looks of it, she really enjoyed her cupcake, too...LOL!

A Doggone Good Birthday

Wow! I can't believe my sweet baby girl is turning 8 today! I've been working furiously on the cupcake toppers, treat bags, and table decorations for her pool party. I'll share those with you after the party, but I do want to share the birthday card I made for her today. Here it is:

Taylor is having a puppy party, so I chose this cute little puppy from my Birthday Bash Cricut Cartridge. The card base came from Art Philosophy, and I punched the scalloped border on the patterned paper with my Stampin' Up Scalloped Border Punch. The sentiment came from Pink By Design's Furry Friends Stamp Set.

I also got the paw prints on the inside from that same stamp set.

Of course, I had to let her know who made it (like she needed the reminder). The I woof you sentiment also came from the Furry Friends set.

Happy Monday! It's my Design Team day over at Pink By Design, and I have a fun card to share with you today that I made using one of Pink By Design's newest stamp sets.

This silly little guy came from the Lettering Delights Funny Faces SVG Set. Isn't he fun? I got the speech bubble from the 3 Thought Bubbles set in the Silhouette Online Store. I stamped my fun sentiment and a mustache from the new Pink By Design Mustaches Stamp Set right in the speech bubble (which is a great way to add a sentiment to your card). I used the cute little mustaches from the the same set to create the background. Here's how I did it:

First, I cut my kraft cardstock to 7' x 10", and folded it in half to create a 5" x 7" card base. Then, I gathered my stamps and my VersaMark Watermark Stamp Pad.

Then, I randomly stamped the middle-sized mustache all over the card, making sure that some of the mustaches ran off of the card base so it would look more like a background.

Here's what it looked like all stamped...I just love how the watermark ink looks on kraft cardstock.

Finally, I went back and randomly stamped the smaller mustache in some of the "white space" left on the card. I love having the different sizes of mustaches to work with.

To finish off my card, I embossed the lenses of the glasses with my Candycane Stripe Cuttlebug embossing folder, inked all of my pieces, and added a little strip of patterned paper and ribbon. All in all, this card came together pretty quickly!

Cameo Creations Challenge #1: Twisted Easel Valentine

Hello, again, everyone! Today is the very first Cameo Creations Challenge over at Monica's Creative Madness. Every other Thursday, she'll be hosting a challenge for all of you talented Silhouette crafters. I know a lot of you guys may have gotten a Cameo for Christmas or have one on its way to you. Plus, tons of you have other Silhouette machines. I hope you'll stop by to get some Silhouette inspiration and join in on the fun.

Okay...now onto the challenge. This week's challenge is to use your Silhouette machine (any model) to make a twisted easel Valentine's Day card using the colors turquoise, red, and pink. Here's what I came up with:

Isn't this little cow adorable? I just love her! I got the cow from the Lettering Delights Sweet Nothings Gift Card Holder SVG Set, and her little pucker came from the Lettering Delights Lip Smackers SVG Set. I got the hearts from the 9 Hearts set in the Silhouette Online Store, and the flowers came from the 3 Flowers set in the store.

Those sweet sMOOches and XOXOXO sentiments came from Pink By Design's Country Living Stamp Set. I got the shape they're stamped on from the 5 Shape Set in the Silhouette Store.

To create the background (grass), I punched strips of green paper with my Martha Stewart Grass punch, then I adhered them in an alternating color pattern. I embossed my cow with my Cuttlebug Seeing Spots embossing folder, and added some black brads for her eyes. Then, I layered all of the flowers using various colored brads, added some doodles and foam tape, and my twisted easel card was all done! I hope you like it! Here's a side view:

Penguin Pals

It's my Design Team day over at Pink By Design, and I have a really COOL card to share with you today. Hehe...here it is:

I got these adorable little penguins and the igloo from the Lettering Delights Eskimo Kisses SVG Set.

I thought this sentiment from the Pink By Design Gratitude Stamp Set would go perfectly with my penguin pals. I also added some hearts from the PBD Labels and Our Teachers Stamp Sets.

I got the tag from this 4 Tag Set I found in the Silhouette Online Store . Here's a tip: when you're die cutting a tag for a project, why not just cut a whole 12" x 12" page of various tags? I cut several copies of different tags out of white card stock. Now, whenever I need somewhere to add my sentiment, I have tons of pre-cut tags to choose from. They are easily customized to match my project by adding a little ink.

I added some pretty snowflake brads, some sparkly bling, ribbon, and doodles...and my card was all done. I hope you like it!

Puppy Birthday Invitations

My youngest daughter is turning 8 in a few weeks, so I've been busy making invitations for her party. She had a Hello Kitty party last year, so she wanted a puppy party this year. Here are her invitations:

These are A2 size invitations (5.5" x 4.25"). I got all of these cute little puppies and their gifts from my Create a Critter Cartridge. The party hat came from my Sweet Treats Cartridge. I got the sentiment from Pink By Design's Party Time Stamp Set. The patterned paper is by Echo Park.

I haven't quite finished them...I still have to print out the inside of the cards and adhere them. Then, over the next couple of weeks, I'll be busy making cupcake wrappers, treat bags, and table decorations. I'll be sure to share those with you when I get them done.

Happy Monday, everyone! Today is my day to post over at Pink By Design, and I'm really excited about the card I have to show you. And....guess what!?!?! I actually made a little video! YAY! Anyway, here's my project:

I can already tell that this one is going to be one of my all-time favorites! I really should make more Disney cards, because I always seem to really like the finished project. I got the JAWSOME shark from my Best of Pixar Cricut Cartridge, and the light blue shape came from my Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge. The sentiment came from Pink By Design's Crikey Stamp Set. I got the twine from Pink By Design's Divine Twine Sample Pack. The background came from Pink By Design's Bubbly Background Stamp, and I used a second-generation stamping technique to get a very subtle background pattern. Here's a little video to show how I did it:

Here's a close up of the background. It looks REALLY subtle here, but you can see it more easily in person. I really like how it looks like water. :)

Well, I hope you like my little card and video. I'm hoping to make videos more often so it will come more natural for me.

Looking at this now, I realize that the layout is a lot like the card I posted earlier. Ha! I guess I'm in that kind of groove.

Life is Sweeter With You

Well, we're one week into the new year, and I've been able to keep my New Years Resolution of posting at least 2 projects a week so far. LOL! Whew...it was kind-of hard, too! Life (and wretched cleaning) seems to get in the way. I've also started to fuss WAY too much over my projects, I think. Anyway...I have another card to share with you today. This time, I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a cute file I found in the Silhouette Online Store. Here it is:

This cute little Happy Heart Cookie is from Silhouette. Isn't it just ADORABLE??? I changed the file a little to make it easier to cut, though. I think the sprinkles and face were originally intended to be little pieces you glue on top, but I really didn't want to deal with all of those little guys. So, I joined those cuts to the frosting layer so they would be cut out. Then, I just adhered little scraps of paper to the back so the different colors would show through. That was much less painstaking than gluing down all of those sprinkles, I think.

I added some pretty purple ribbon under the cookie, popped up the frosting with foam tape, and added Glossy Accents to the sprinkles to make them a bit more 3D (since I changed the original design). I also added some black brads for the eyes and inked the edges with my Color Box Fluid Chalk Inks. The tag came from a 4 Tag Set I found in the Silhouette Online Store. I got the "sweet" little sentiment from Pink By Design's Say It Sweet Stamp Set.

Here's what the inside looks like. I cut an extra "cookie" layer so I'd have a lighter space for writing inside. Oh, and I created the card base by creating a shadow layer in Silhouette Studio, creating a mirror image, and welding the two together.

RAWR Means I Love You

I finally got the chance to use my Cricut again today. It seems like it's been FOREVER! I was just having so much fun playing with my Silhouette. I've been looking through my handbooks lately, though, and I've renewed my love for some of my Cricut carts. Hopefully I'll find ways to use them more often.

Anyway, I have a little card to share with you today. I've been dying to use this cute sentiment from Pink By Design, and I finally took the time to find a cut that goes along perfectly with it. Here's my little card:

I got this adorable little dinosaur and the heart from my Create a Critter cartridge. The card base came from Birthday Bash. The fun pattern on the dino came from Pink By Design's Bubble Wrap Background Stamp. I used generation stamping to create the subtle design. That just means that I inked up my stamp, stamped it on scratch paper (the first generation stamp), then immediately stamped it on my dinosaur without inking back up (the second generation stamp). That way, his spots weren't quite so bold. I softened the spots even more by inking him up with my Color Box Fluid Chalk Inks. I added some ribbon, some doodling marks, and some Stickles, and the front of my card was all done.

For the inside of my card, I used the same green as the dinosaur. The sentiment came from Pink By Design's Be Mine Stamp Set. Isn't it just the cutest little saying?!? I also added some Fluid Chalk and some doodling to the inside of the card to finish it off.

Crafty Resolutions for 2012

Happy New Year, everyone! I just wanted to do a quick post to share the crafty resolutions I came up with for 2012. Hopefully you'll help me stay on top of them. Here they are:

1. Post AT LEAST 2 projects per week (though I hope it will be more...I've really started slacking on this).

2. Post AT LEAST 1 video per month.

3. Submit AT LEAST 2 projects a month for publication and try to get published in 2012 (oooo...so scary!).

I tried to make them reachable so I can hopefully stick to them. I'd love to hear your crafty resolutions for the new year!

So, hopefully I'll be back later this week (or 2 times) with new projects for you. Keep your fingers crossed! :)

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you're having a wonderful holiday season! Today is my day to post over at Pink By Design, and I want to share the birthday card I made for my hubby with you today (his birthday is tomorrow). Here it is:

I got this cute little robot from the Lettering Delights Animal Boxes and Bags SVG Set and cut it out with my Silhouette machine. I decided to use him on a card instead of a box, though. I embossed the background with my Clockworks Cuttlebug Folder, and added some ink to make the embossing stand out a bit more. I was also attempting to make it look a bit more masculine. "Masculine" is not my strong suit. Of course, I got the wonderful sentiment from Pink By Design's Gigabyte Stamp Set. I think this will be a go-to set for cards for my hubby since he works with computers...all of the sentiments are just PERFECT for him!

On the inside of the card, I wanted to carry on the gear pattern, but I didn't want the texture that is on the front (so it would be easy to write on). So, I used my PBD Gears Background Stamp with some ink that is a bit darker than the paper to create a fun background. I'm sorry for showing you my personal message to my hubby...I got a little excited and wrote in in before I took pictures of it. Ooops! At least I didn't get too gushy. :)

For my project, I decided to make a little gift box and card combo that are, LIKE, TOTALLY 80's! Here are my projects:

I cut all of the shapes for my projects using my Silhouette Cameo. The box file was just a blank box, and it came from the Silhouette Online Store. I drew the little rounded squares in Silhouette Studio, and sized them to fit my box. You should have seen me gluing all of those little squares on there! I love how it turned out, though. The box is about 2.75" cubed...which is the perfect size for some sweets (if you're HUNGRY LIKE A WOLF) or even jewelry (if you're a MATERIAL GIRL). ;)

I also got this fun cassette tape shape card from the Silhouette Store, too. I added a sentiment from Pink By Design's I Love the 80s Stamp Set. I also added a few more on the inside just for fun:

All Aboard!

Merry Monday, everyone! Today is my day to post over at Pink By Design, and I have a fun project to share with you today. I decided to make a Christmas decoration that we could use each year. Here it is:

I know it's really tiny...you can click on it to see it larger. I got this cute Christmas train from the Lettering Delights Christmas Express Cut Its Set. Aren't the characters just precious? I created the pattern on the light blue cardstock by stamping the Pink By Design Falling Snow Background Stamp in white pigment ink. I think it creates the perfect backdrop for my train.

I decided to do a bit of a modified acordian fold for the base of the project. Everything is raised with foam tape, so I wanted to be able to close it easily for storage between Christmases. This way, there is an inch of space between each piece when folded, sort-of like how an expanding file works.

I used the PBD Christmas Wishes stamp set for sentiment on this car.

This cute sentiment came from the PBD November Stamp of the Month Set: Goodie Labels.

The Merry Christmas on the caboose also came from the PBD Christmas Wishes stamp set.

All of the cars are inked with ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink and raised with foam tape, and I tied them together with some Cherry Divine Twine from the Divine Twine Sample Pack, which you can find in the PBD store.

This card measures 5" x 7". I got these cute little hens from Silhouette's Online Store, their berets came from the Lettering Delights Hipsters Cut It Set, the Eiffel Tower came from the Lettering Delights J'adore SVG Set, and the wreath came from the Lettering Delights Christmas Dee-Licious SVG Set. I cut all these shapes with my Silhouette Cameo, inked and assembled the pieces, and added brads for the hens' eyes.

I had a lot of fun with background stamps on this card. First, I used the Pink By Design Damask Background Stamp to create the overall background for my card. I decided to stamp right on my card base, but I wanted to contain the design to the front of the card. So, I used good old painter's tape to mask off along the fold of the card. Then, I inked up my stamp by dabbing my stamp pad all over the stamp.

My background was bigger than the stamp, but that was no problem. The great thing about PBD backgrounds is that they are totally tileable, which means I was able to stamp once, then line up the edge of the design and stamp again to cover the entire background. When I was done, I carefully peeled off the painter's tape to reveal a perfectly clean line. You know, this looks just like some wallpaper we had in our entry hall when I was growing up..green color and all. Anyway, I wanted a more subtle background with less contrast, so I used my Colorbox Fluid Chalk inks to add a little distressing and character.

Next, I decided to use my Pink By Design Script Background Stamp to add a little pattern to some of my cut pieces.

Then, I decided to soften the stamped images and papers a little by inking them with my Colorbox Fluid Chalk Inks:

Finally, I cut this cute little tag using the Pink By Design Goodie Label Die, which came with my November Stamp of the Month set (Goodie Labels). This die was so easy to use with my Cuttlebug machine...here's how I did it:

In order to use steel dies like the ones you can find at PBD with your Cuttlebug, you need to purchase a Thin Die Adapter plate (Plate C). I found mine online. Then, you want to make a "sandwich" in this order (from bottom to top): A plate (on the bottom), C plate, die (with raised cutting edge facing up), cardstock, B plate. Then, just run the "sandwich" through your Cuttlebug machine, and you have a perfect little tag that is ready for stamping!

I used my Goodie Labels Stamp Set to outline the tag, then I stamped a sentiment from the PBD Old Time Christmas Stamp Set.

I added a little ribbon (which I also inked with my Fluid Chalk), and my little card was all done! I hope you like it! I'd love it if you'd leave me some love...I soooooo enjoy your comments. :)

Smile, It's Your Birthday

Happy Monday! Today is my day to post for the Pink By Design Design Team, and I have a sweet little card that I made for my sister-in-law to share with you today. She just LOVES ladybugs!

But...you know what? She is a fan of my Facebook page (which is great and very supportive of her), and I can't let her see a pic of her card before she gets it. So, here's a pic for her to see on Facebook. :)

Okay, so now that her card has been kept a secret from her, I can show it to you. Here it is:

I used Pink By Design's Damask Background Stamp for the pink background paper. I love how it adds just the right amount of elegance to my card. The sentiment came from Pink By Design's Take the Cake Stamp Set. I got the cute little Ladybug from the Create a Critter Cricut Cartridge, the circle came from the Birthday Bash Cricut Cartridge, and the flowers came from the Close to My Heart Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge. Plus, I embossed the circle with my Candy Cane Stripe Cuttlebug Embossing Folder.

This was my first time using flowers like this on a project, so I want to show you how I made these flower cutouts into three-dimentional embellishments. You'll see that I was learning as I went. First, I cut all of the flowers in four different sizes: 1 extra large, 3 large, 2 medium, and 1 small, and I inked all of the pieces with my Colorbox Fluid Chalk Inks. Then, I found something cylindrical to curl my petals around. I used my i-Rock (don't worry, it's wasn't turned on) to curl the petals of the extra large flower. You could use anything cylindrical you have on hand.

See, it makes the flat flower cutout stand out a bit more.

The i-Rock wouldn't work for the smaller flowers, though, because it was just too big around to put a nice curl in the petals. So, I decided to use my Tweezer-Bees. I just grasped the end of the petal in my tweezers and twirled it back, wrapping the petal around the tweezers. It was a lot like I was using a curling iron to curl my hair. :)

Next, I punched a hole in the center of each of the flowers. Here's where I learned a lesson...it would probably be best to punch the holes BEFORE I curled the petals (DUH!). The punch flattened some of the petals out a little, and I had to recurl them.

Finally I put brads through the hole of each flower to join the layers together. I adhered the flowers to my project using foam tape.

Tacky Tuesday

OMGoodness! Did you know that this month's Tacky Tuesday's Challenge involves using a frog cut???? How EXCITING! In case you didn't know, the frog is my favorite animal. I had froggies all over my classroom when I was teaching, and now I have them all over my craft room. So, I HAD to make time to make a froggy card. I also had to use a sentiment with the word "frog" or "toad" on the front. Here's what I came up with:

I got this cute froggy from the Lettering Delights Toad-ally School Cut It set. I replaced the apple, though, with a gift from the LD Birthday Fishes Cut It set. I also got the hat from there. If you'd like to see a tutorial about how I cut theses SVGs with my Silhouette Cameo using the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition, visit this post. The sentiment came from combining a "Wishing you a Hoppy Day" stamp from Pink By Design's Hoppy Easter set with a "Toad-ily Yours" stamp from Pink By Design's Be Mine set using a masking technique. It was really easy...if you'd like to know how I did it, just let me know in a comment, and I can put together a little tutorial for you.

Tutorial: Using SVGs with the Silhouette Cameo

Hey, everyone! When I posted last week about my trying first day with my new Silhouette Cameo, I had a request to do a tutorial on how to use use it. So, I thought I would show you how I use Lettering Delights SVGs with my Silhouette Cameo.

First, I need to let you know that I purchased the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software so using SVG files with my Cameo would be easier. As far as I know, Make-the-Cut (which I love), is not yet compatible with the Cameo, unless they've come out with an update in the past week or so that I don't know about (which is entirely possible). I'm sure they are working on getting MTC fully functional with the Cameo. I was itching to use my Cameo, though, and I really wanted to use the Lettering Delights SVGs that I just can't seem to stop collecting. So, purchasing the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition for $50 was a no-brainer for me.

I also want to say that I am, in no way, shape, or form, an expert at this. I'm just sharing with you how I figured out to use my SVGs with this software. There may be better, more efficient ways, but I'm just sharing my way.

Okay, now on to the tutorial. By the way, I'm working in Windows 7.

Step 1: Open the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software on your computer. Once it is open, go to File--Open in the upper left hand corner of your screen. You can also click on the open folder in the upper left corner.

Step 2: In the window that appears, change the "Files of Type" to SVG.

Step 3: Locate the SVG file you want on your computer, click on it, and click OK.

This is what your screen will look like if you just imported a Lettering Delights SVG file. Other SVG files may be laid out differently on your screen and they may or may not be colored.

Step 4: Now, you want to size the image. First, click on the image to make it active. Measurements will appear around the image.

Then, Click on the lower right "handle" and drag until the image is the size you want.

Step 5: Now, you'll need to break the image into its separate cuts. Make sure the image is still active (with the measurements around it). Then, in the lower left corner of your screen, click the "Ungroup Selected Shapes" button.

Your image should now look like this. Notice that each little piece is surrounded by its own rectangle.

Step 6: Now it's time to separate the cuts on your virtual mat. First, click anywhere off of the image to deselect it. Then, click on each individual piece and drag it to a new place on your mat. The pieces will be grouped by color, which makes it easier for you!

Step 7: Now, you need to make these images cuttable. First, you need to select all of your shapes to make them active. You can do this by holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and typing A. This selects all of the shapes. You can also click and drag to select the entire mat. You'll know the shapes are all selected and active because they will each by surrounded by a rectangle.

Step 8: In the top right corner of your screen, you'll see a row of buttons. When you let your cursor hover over each one, a short description of each button's function will appear. Locate the "Open the Cut Style Window" button, and click on it.

On the right side of your screen, you'll see that "No Cut" is highlighted. You want "Cut Edge" to be highlighted, so click on it. You'll see a red outline appear around your images. If this photo is too small, just click on it to see it larger.

Step 9: Now it's time to prepare to cut! Yay! Cut the desired colored cardstock for your cuts to the appropriate size. You can use the grid marks on your Silhouette mat to help you with that. Also, remember that the mat loads from the top of your workspace, not the left like on the Cricut (if you're familiar with the Gypsy).

Step 10: Connect your Cameo to your computer with the provided USB cable, and turn on your machine. Load the mat into your machine (you can find instructions on how to do that in the guide that came with your machine).

Step 11: Now, click on the "Send to Silhouette" button in the upper left hand corner of your screen. If this photo is too small, just click on it to see it larger.

You will see that the sidebar on the right of your screen brings up the "Send to Silhouette" dialog box. You'll want to double check your cut settings, so click on the "Cut Settings" link. If this photo is too small, just click on it to see it larger.

Choose the type of paper you are using from the menu. (Click on the photo to make it larger). I chose cardstock, since that's is what I'm using. The software will now suggest what setting you should set your blade to. I would recommend not paying too much attention to this. I tried cutting cardstock with my blade set at 3, and it only cut through the thinner pieces.

In fact, the user guide that comes with the Cameo gives different settings. If this photo is too small, just click on it to see it larger. You see...I AM using textured cardstock (from Bazzill and American Crafts), so I should be using a setting from 4-6. I decided to use 5.

If you don't know how to adjust your blade setting, there are great instruction in your user guide:

You can also adjust Speed and Thickness on this screen, but I didn't bother with that just today. Once you have your cut settings like you want them, click "Send to Silhouette" at the bottom of the screen.

Step 12: Finally, it's time to cut! To do that, you just have to click on "Cut Page". Then, the magic begins!

And here's how beautifully my Cameo (with its blade set at 5) cut through my Bazzill and American Crafts textured cardstock. Just LOVELY!

Well, I hope you found my little tutorial helpful. I know that seems like a lot of steps, but I just wanted to give as much detail as possible to make this easier for you. And, really, once you try this a couple of times, it will seem so easy peasy! I'll be sharing the card I made with all of these cuts a little later in the week, so check back to see it!

I've been in a very Thanksgiving-y mood lately, so I wanted to try to incorporate Thanksgiving into my Hello Kitty project. The problem is that there are no Thanksgiving images on the Hello Kitty Greetings Cartridge, and I wasn't able to find any HK Thanksgiving SVGs anywhere. So, I just had to figure out how to make my own! Here's my project:

This is an A2 sized card. I got the turkey and pumpkin from Create a Critter, the Hello Kitty base image from Hello Kitty Greetings, and the pilgrim attire from Paper Doll Dress Up. The sentiment is from Pink By Design's Bountiful Blessings stamp set, and the ribbon is from Pink By Design's Halloween Crinkle Ribbon Set (which happens to work really well for Thanksgiving, too).

I got the idea for this Hello Kitty character from this image I found trough Google:

Aren't those little pilgrims so adorable? To get a similar HK pilgrim girl, I used the graduation Hello Kitty from the Hello Kitty Greetings Cart:

Then, I used my Gypsy to size the hat and collar of the pilgrim girl from Paper Doll Dress Up to fit this Hello Kitty Cut.

I cut Hello Kitty's clothes in dark gray to look all pilgrim-like, and I cut the collar and hat from white. Once the images were all cut out, I had to do some trimming with my craft knife to make the collar look like it belonged on Hello Kitty. It needed to have that black outline around it, like all of the HK cuts have:

Then, I needed that same black outline around the hat, so I adhered it to black cardstock and trimmed around it with scissors:

I also had to trim the line on the inside with my craft knife so it would show up:

Once I did that, my Hello Kitty Pilgrim girl was all done! I decided to use a pink Martha Stewart Opaque Marker for her nose and some pink chalk for her cheeks so she didn't look like she came out of an old black and white cartoon. Here's my card again so you can see what I mean:

Doesn't she look like she has gobbled 'til she wobbled? :)

Better with Friends (and my NEW Silhouette Cameo!)

Hey, everyone! Today is my day to post over at Pink By Design, and I have a sneak peek to show you. But first, I want to share the adventures I've had today with my new Silhouette Cameo.

I've been so excited to get this thing, and I finally got the chance to set it up today. Well, here's what I learned from my VERY frustrating day with my Cameo:

1. Make-the-Cut apparently can't use the Cameo just yet.

2. Silhouette Studio doesn't support SVG files unless you do all of these extra steps to get them to work.

3. If you want to use SVGs with Silhouette Studio (without all the extra steps), you have to purchase the Designer Edition (which I finally decided to do). I do like that the SVGs import their color into Silhouette Studio...it makes it much easier to choose paper colors then.

4. If you buy the Designer Edition, you have to place a cut outline around your SVGs before they'll actually cut (which I finally figured out after TONS of frustration and time on the Internet). That step is really simple, though, and, once I figured that out, cutting went very smoothly.

5. You should follow the recommendations in the User Manual, and not the settings in Silhouette Studio, if you want your cuts to go all the way through your paper.

Having said all of that, I will say that the Silhouette cut through the thinner cardstock I had on the mat beautifully at the setting I used. Just look at those perfectly circular eyes!

I'm excited to try it out again at the proper settings...I think I'm going to be SOOOO happy with my new toy. So, now I have two toys to play with...my Cricut for my cartridges (which I still love and can FINALLY update without fear of losing the capability to cut SVGs), and my new Silhouette for cutting SVGs and Silhouette files. Anyway...on with my sneak peek. Here it is:

I got this great sentiment from a set that's going to be released this Friday. You're going to LOVE this sentiment set! The sushi roll cuts came from the Lettering Delights Bento Box SVG set. I love these little guys, and I think they look so friendly! This card is 5.75" square, and will fit in a 6" square envelope.

Kimi's Baby Shower Blog Hop

Some of us are creating layouts for the baby's first scrapbook. I made two layouts for today: one for the month of September, and one for Baby's First Tooth. Here they are:

This layout can hold one 4" x 6" photo and four 3" x 3" photos (shown in blue). Really, Kimi could choose to put any size in the strip on the right (3" x ??). I used my Opposites Attract cartridge to cut the "September Sweetie" title, and I used the Lettering Delights Feels Like Autumn Cut It Set for the apple bushel and the apples. I added some ink, ribbon, brads, and white doodling marks, and this layout was all done!

This layout holds one 4" x 6" photo and two 4" x 4" photos. I got all of the cuts for this one from my Baby Steps cartridge. I added some ink, ribbon, and white doodles to add a little umph. I hope you like the layouts, and I ESPECIALLY home Kimi likes them. :)

Let's Monster Mash

Hey, everyone! Today is my Pink By Design Design Team Day, and I have a quick little Halloween card to share with you. Here it is:

I used Pink By Design's super fun A Haunting We Will Go stamp set for the sentiment on this one. Every time I think about the monster mash, I think of Frankenstein for some reason, so I added this cute little Frankie from the Lettering Delights Spooky Soiree Graphics Set. The beautiful ribbon is from Pink By Design's Halloween Crinkle Ribbon…this one is Ghoulish Green. The patterned paper is from Making Memories 8" x 8" Toil and Trouble Multipack. (If you'd like the chance to win one of these packs, click HERE...the giveaway is open until Wednesday, Oct. 5.)

Here's a little tip: to help your patterned paper pop against your solid-colored card base, add a black piece of cardstock that is 1/8" larger than your patterned paper as a thin mat. It really helps to distinguish the patterned paper.

Pink By Design Halloween Blog Hop

I've just been dying to make some Halloween projects, but I just haven't gotten around to it...until today! Yay! Here's my card:

I wasn't in much of a paper-piecing mood this week, so I decided to only use a few cutouts on my little 5.75" square card. The tree came from the Lettering Delights Halloween Cut It Simple Shapes Set, and the pumpkins came from the Lettering Delights Witches Brew Cut It Set. I got the cute vampire guy from the Lettering Delights Smell My Feet Graphic Set. The bat came from the Lettering Delights Bat-itude Graphic Set. I just printed out the graphics and trimmed them with my scissors and craft knife. Easy peasy!

And, of course, Pink By Design had the perfect stamps to go with my card. I got the sentiment on the front from the September Stamp of the Month set, Guess Who? The sentiment and the cute little bat and moon on the inside came from the Ghostly Greetings Stamp Set. You can get that one from Oh My Crafts! or from the PBD website if you are a Stamp of the Month Club Member. I added some ink and embossing, and my quick little card was all done! I hope you like it!

Well, it's Candace's birthday this week, so Candace is having this hop to celebrate. We're making all sorts of girly projects, and you'll have the chance to win some FANTASTIC blog hop candy along the way. For my project, I decided to make some girly thank you notes. Here they are:

I made 6 A2 cards in all, each with a different girly cut I got from my Forever Young cartridge. The patterned paper is from K&Co.'s Sparkly Sweet stack, and the sentiment is from Pink By Design's Here Comes the Bride stamp set. The scalloped circle is a 3" punch, and the circle is a 2.75" punch. I punched the border with a Fiskars punch, added a little ribbon and some ink, and my thank you cards were all done. It may be hard to tell from the photos, but the base of the card is a plum color, not brown. :)

Happy Monday, everyone! It's my day to share over at the Pink By Design Blog, and I want to share a card I made for my sister-in-law, who is turning 21 this week. When I e-mailed her to see what she wanted for her birthday, she mentioned a gift card (since I couldn't send beer through the mail). HA! So, that got me to thinking...maybe I can! Here's what I came up with:

I decided to use a beer bottle as the 1 in her age. I got the bottle from the Lettering Delights Pucker Up SVG set, and the lime came from the Lettering Delights Oishii SVG set. I cut the 2 from a font I have on my computer using Make-the-Cut. And, of course, Pink By Design had the perfect stamp sets to go with my card. The sentiment came from the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun set. Here's what the inside of my card looks like:

The inside sentiment also came from Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Here's a little tip: you can tie in patterned papers into your theme using stamps. I added the lime stamp from the PBD Cocktails stamp set to my polka-dots to do just that.
